Love Connie 2: Electric Boogaloo
In 2010 John Cantwell created his first all dance, no dialogue drag show called LOVE, CONNIE starring himself as "Love Connie" and fellow actor Kelly Mantle as Connie's nemesis, "Bambi". The show, which featured Italian giallo inspired film sequences mixed with live dance performance, ran for 3 years around L.A. as well as NYC and the Afterglow Festival in Provincetown, MA. HuffPost called the show "Eerie, enigmatic... unlike anything you've ever seen on a stage" and film critic Alonso Duralde said "If Dario Argento ever directed an episode of "Solid Gold" it would look like LOVE, CONNIE. When we last left the 3 characters, "Connie" had lost her mind, "Bambi" was at the bottom of a cliff and "Vickie" was purring, happy to be reunited with her owner...
And now... 10 years later... They meet again... in LOVE CONNIE 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO a revenge sequel crammed with action and oozing sexuality.
Taking inspiration from '70's and '80's exploitation prison films like MIDNIGHT EXPRESS, REFORM SCHOOL GIRLS and NIGHTMARE IN BADHAM COUNTY, this new Connie show is set in a Turkish prison for lingerie clad babes all coming together in order to form the ultimate dancing girl group, led by the one and only Bambi. But this ain't no Spice Girls... These are some of the toughest, roughest, revenge-minded babes ever to be put on a stage together and it will take everything they have to survive this hell hole... and survive each other.
Starring in the show alongside Love Connie and Kelly Mantle are Lux LaCroix as Connie's cat "Vickie" as well as jail bird, "Shine" and Lou Becker playing a variety of 70's exploitation archetypes to tantalize, titillate and terrorize the girls and the audience.
The show is produced, created and directed by Cantwell and staged and choreographed by Becker and Cantwell.
The poster art was designed by Yves Navant ("13: The Astonishing Lives Of The Neuromantics")
