3-Day Intimacy For The Stage Workshop with Tonia Sina & Claire Warden

Intimacy Directors International Founder and Executive Director, Tonia Sina, with Broadway's 1st Intimacy Director and IDI's Director of Engagement, Claire Warden in a 3-day Intimacy for the Stage intensive.
CLASS DESCRIPTION: This 3-day workshop, taught by IDI Leaders Tonia Sina and Claire Warden, explores the work of the Actor and Stage Director in theatrical intimacy. This intensive workshop will dive deeply into the craft and artistry of Intimacy Direction and help establish IDI's 5-pillar method as a standard of practice in the theatre. This workshop is open to any and all in the theatre, including stage managers, administrators, producers, designers, and more. Participants should be prepared to participate in exercises from the perspective of actors. Please note - intimate touch is never required, and modifications are always provided.
FEATURING:
TONIA SINA is the Founder and Executive Director of Intimacy Directors International (along with co founders, Alicia Rodis and Siobhan Richardson). Most recently, she presented at the Society of American Fight Directors National Stage Combat Workshop, at Sacred Fools Theatre Company in Hollywood and Great River Shakespeare Festivals Front Porch Series in Winona, Minnesota. She was the Intimacy Choreographer for the production of The Bakkhai at the Stratford Festival in Ontario, Canada, as well as being an international sexual harassment prevention advisor for theatre and film. Recently featured in The NY Times, Washington Post, American Theatre Magazine, CBC Radio, Huffington Post, BBC Radio, and many other publications and radio interviews, she is the former Artistic Director of Reduxion Theatre Company in Oklahoma City, and an international Intimacy for the Stage workshop teacher and choreographer. Tonia has been studying Intimacy for the Stage and Sexual Harassment in the industry since she began research for her Masters thesis in 2004 when she created the term, Intimacy Choreography. IDIs Pillars for Safe Intimacy Direction are the culmination of her professional work.
Originally an actress and stunt woman, after eight years in academia as a movement professor, Tonia wrote the article: Safe Sex: A Look at the Intimacy Choreographer for the Fight Master periodical, and is continuing to publish her work in the form of a book. She has taught Intimacy at several SAFD regional workshops including MACE's Winter Wonderland, The Tourist Trap, The Lonestar Smash, and the Louisiana Tech Stage Combat Workshop. Tonia also advises Universities on their curricula to help avoid harassment and abuse in academia.
Also a director, playwright, model, and performer, Tonia is a soon to be triple kidney transplant recipient and rare and chronic disease patient advocate and national motivational speaker. An alumnus of Niagara Universitys BFA in theatre performance program and Virginia Commonwealth University, where she studied movement under Fight Master David Leong and Certified Teacher and Fight Director, Aaron Anderson, and earned her MFA in Movement Pedagogy with a specialty in Intimacy for the Stage, when she invented the term.
CLAIRE WARDEN is an intimacy director and coordinator, fight director, teacher and actress with over twenty years experience in theatre, TV and film across America and the UK. She is the Director of Engagement with Intimacy Directors International and a founding member of IDI-UK, and is co-leading the intimacy direction movement across America and the world. Claire consults for and intimacy coordinates on television networks, such HBO and Hulu, as well as independent films. She has recently made history as the first intimacy director in a Broadway production for Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, with Audra McDonald and Michael Shannon. Off-Broadway, she was the intimacy and fight director of Slave Play (NYTW), Daddy (Vineyard/New Group) and the recent production of BLKS (MCC Theatre) as well as others both in New York and regionally. Claire is the winner of the 2019 Drama Desk Award for her choreography in Slave Play, and was also nominated for Daddy.
Claire trains faculty & students in acting training institutions across the country, including Yale, NYU, Stella Adler, Cambridge University (UK), the ONeill Theatre Center, Muhlenberg College, Sarah Lawrence, HB Studios, UConn, Northeastern University, Sonoma State and is the Intimacy Consultant and Director at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She has presented and given workshops for conferences and theatre communities on both sides of the Atlantic.

ABOUT IDI: Intimacy Directors International (IDI) is a not for profit organization comprised of artists from around the world who are trained to choreograph and direct scenes of an intimate nature for the stage and screen. Founded by Tonia Sina, Siobhan Richardson, and Alicia Rodis, IDI's mandate is to provide compelling physical and emotional storytelling within intimate scenes - including hand-holding, nudity, kissing, and/or simulated sexual activities - while also maintaining the physical and psychological safety of all involved. As active advocates for performer safety, IDI sets and maintains a high standard for proper consent, sexual harassment awareness, overall safety, and dramaturgical expertise.
