YAT WORK: Roadmap to Character
5 Week Introduction
Saturdays, June 29, July 6-27, 1pm - 4pm
If you want a life punctuated with wonder and discovery, with a core value of generosity, vital artistic expression and a willingness to dig deep, YOU BELONG WITH US HERE AT YBC.
JOIN US for a 5 week introduction for new students who want to grow ambitiously as artists and who want to investigate the vital muscularity of the Yat Work.
At YBC the Yat Work (described below) is further developed by Tom's many decades teaching, directing, writing and performing, culminating in a technique that creates inner freedom, that removes blocks, and that trains artists to see the world with a clarity and incisiveness that leads to deep, nuanced character work. Tom was one of Yat's final private students.
In this introductory class you'll begin to learn Yat and Tom's unique, methodological approach to deep character transformation resulting in a measurable expansion of range and a palpable deepening of character development. Students also find a growing internal freedom artistically and personally.
Physical work, text, character, voice, and movement cultivate depth of character and presence. The work meets each student exactly where they are, right now, and allows for rapid growth and shifts. Simple and profoundly transformational, what you learn can be utilized in your ongoing creative projects for years to come.
By the end of the workshop, you will have been introduced to the major components of Yat's work.

ABOUT YAT WORK Long known in Europe, and just beginning to arrive in the U.S. trailblazer Yat Malmgren's life work offers a methodological and dynamic approach to the creation of character. Through a series of building blocks the actor learns to transform and the writer to create characters with textured individual makeups. Where the American assumption is that we create character using the truth of who we are at the base, Yat Work allows an internal shift through the which the performer can become unrecognizable, able to experience the world through lenses that would not otherwise have been perceivable or available. It becomes the difference between a great actor who is always themselves playing a role and a great actor who disappears before the audience and can make way for a completely separate human being.
