Rules and How To Break Them
In an age dominated by the daily shattering of norms, you deserve distraction, and were going to give it to you! The loons who brought you the wildly successful "Sex and How To Have It," "Food and How To Eat It," "Beer and How To Drink It," and "Money and How To Make It" return to the BeBe Theater in downtown Asheville the last two weekends of June for six performances only of their latest sketch comedy extravaganza, "Rules and How To Break Them"!
Thats right, friends. After a brief two-year hiatus, the How-To Crew is back and better than everor, anyway, no worse for the wear. Crew veterans Glenn Reed (otherwise best known as Jimbo Bernstein, a LaZoom tour guide, and a host of the Home-Groan Pun Battle), comedy titan Scott Fisher ("All in the Timing," "Off the Rails," The Zoo Story), and song-and-dance sensation Katie Langwell (most recently seen in a dramatic role in "Silent Sky"), are joined by Emily New Val Spreng (an improv artist with the group What You Pay For), making her How-To debut. Yes, and the worlds of sketch and improv comedy collide in "Rules and How To Break Them." Which, if either, will survive?
In this world premiere produced by The Sublime Theater, the How-To Crew refuses to be constrained by the rules of civil discourse as they take on party behavior, the rules of the road, social media, classroom rules, board game rules, dinner expectations, sex outside of marriage, the Ten Commandments, KonMarie-ing your friends, the necessity of calling siblings on their birthdays, and more! Aided and abetted by head writer Lisa Yoffee, choreographer Kristi DeVille, and producer/director Steven Samuels, the How-To Crew will act, dance, and sing its way far beyond the established rules of sketch comedy.
According to Samuels, The How-To series was born of our desire to reconceive what sketch comedy can be by giving it a theme and continuity. Our previous efforts have been met with rave reviews and sold-out houses, and 'Rules and How To Break Them' may be our strongest and funniest production yet!
The show plays Thursdays-Saturdays, June 20-29, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to this unforgettable theatrical experienceonly $15!are available at the BeBe box office an hour before each performance or online at rules.brownpapertickets.com or www.thesublimetheater.org. Due to limited seating, advance purchase is recommended.
