Beethoven at 250, Part Two
Australian-born cellist Clancy Newman won the Naumburg Award in 2001, and enjoys a vibrant international career as a composer and chamber musician. In this all-Beethoven program, he makes his Pittsburgh debut in the composer's beloved Sonata #3 and Magic Flute Variations for Cello and Piano. Fellow Naumburg winner and local favorite, soprano Sari Gruber, and David Allen Wehr will offer To the Distant Beloved, considered to be the first song-cycle ever written and an important landmark in the history of vocal music. Wehr will also play the perennially popular Moonlight Sonata along with its more rarely-heard sister sonata.
