CHESS The Musical
CHESS is a Tony Award nominated musical with music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus of the pop group ABBA, lyrics by Tim Rice, and a book by Richard Nelson based on an idea by Rice. The story involves a politically driven, Cold War era chess tournament between two grandmasters from America and the USSR and their fight over a woman who manages one and falls in love with the other. Just as relevant today as it was thirty years ago, CHESS blends the raw emotion of modern opera with the edginess of synth-pop and rock n' roll.
Bravo Theatre Company's Artistic Director, Daniel K. Williams will stage direct. Joining him as music director is Diane Gray with additional music direction by Susan Guyer and choreography by Emily Fishman. Featuring a cast and production team from the Greater Philadephia Area, this fully staged production will be accompanied by The Chesco Pops under the baton of Maestro Joe Gehring.
