Neil Alexander & NAIL Live at the Howland
The Howland Cultural Center, Beacon's Premier Arts and Entertainment venue, now celebrating its 40th Anniversary, is pleased to present Neil Alexander & Nail. 2019 marks the 20th Anniversary of 'Neil Alexander & Nail,' the Funky World Jazz/Fusion project of keyboardist and composer Neil Alexander. Originally imagined as a punk rock-ish prog-rock outfit in 1999, Nail has continued to grow and evolve, exploring and incorporating new elements thru many iterations and personnel changes. Currently the band features long time drummer Nadav Snir-Zelniker, Brian Mooney on bass and saxophonist Steven Frieder. Focusing on original music, Neil remains the primary composer for the group with tunes like 'Everyman.' ('At The Water's Edge' and 'Starlight Casts No Shadow'). There are also a smattering of re-arranged jazz standards, songs from the classic fusion catalog, and a choice rock and roll tune (or two) rendered in the classic jazz tradition. For the Howland Cultural Center performance, Neil is bringing in special guests Eric Person (saxophone) and Beacon resident Brad Hubbard (baritone saxophone, flute), along with Swaminathan Salvaganesh, a master of the percussion instrument called the 'Kanjira.' In addition to arranging preexisting music, Neil is composing new pieces for this extended ensemble. NAIL currently has four CDs out, with the latest one recorded at the Blue Note's 'Late Night Groove Series' in NYC. NAIL will record a new disc at the end of this year's 20th Anniversary Tour dates.
