THE WHITE DRESS by Roger Q. Mason
July 5 - 20 at Access Theater
The World Premiere of THE WHITE DRESS By Roger Q. Mason Directed & Choreographed by Adin Walker Featuring C. Bain*, Atticus Cain*, Ian Smith, Stanley Mathabane, & Aurea Tomeski* (please note: the role of Jonathan will be played by Alexander Paris on July 10, 13, & 17)
How long must we fight to be free in our own skin? Who helps and who harms along the journey? What is your white dress?
Inspired by the playwright's own experiences, THE WHITE DRESS is a genderqueer coming-of-age play for the they/them generation. It follows Jonathan Howard, a biracial Black and Filipinx gender non-conformist as they navigate familial shaming, peer bullying, and the unrequited love of childhood friend Winnie to redefine what male looks, sounds and feels like. Directed/choreographed by Adin Walker, THE WHITE DRESS features a music and movement score that accentuates Jonathan's odyssey to be free in their own skin.
After an acclaimed, sold-out workshop production in 2017 as part of The Araca Project, THE WHITE DRESS returns to New York for its world premiere, coinciding with World Pride and the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.
