Once associated with dusty library cassette tapes, audiobooks are more popular than ever. New technology has made it easy to listen to large audio files on the go, with a resulting surge in listeners.
Jim Seybert - a professional audiobook narrator-- will tell you about the audiobook industry in general, what goes into producing an audiobook, about his background and the backgrounds of some other narrators, how long it takes to narrate a book, how to "get into character, his career path, and perhaps some secrets of the profession. You will also enjoy a few sample readings.
There is an old idea that audiobooks are somehow cheating." But there are new studies that conclude that listening to your literature stimulates the brain just as much as reading does. Reading a physical book and listening to the audiobook are two different paths that lead to the same destination. Each creates differing experiences and memories, but neither is better or worse than the other.
Prior to establishing his narration career, Jim Seybert was a marketing executive with a national association of book retailers, and a twice-published author. He lives and works in a studio on California's renowned Central Coast. His job as an audiobook narrator is to understand the author's intent and translate that to the listener. In doing so, he is an advocate for both the listener and the writer.
