VALERIE LANDSBURG
Valerie Landsburg will offer a program of songs and stories at the Phippsburg Congregational Church on Saturday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. Known for her central role on the TV series Fame, Landsburgs career has encompassed hit TV shows, Broadway plays and movies.
Landsburg has performed with musical icons like Joan Baez, Janet Jackson, Melissa Manchester, Donna Summer, and Lionel Ritchie. During her four seasons playing Doris Schwartz on the hit television series Fame, she recorded many songs including one, Hi Fidelity, that earned her a platinum single. In 2000 she recorded her first solo album Grownup, with the support of musicians for Jethro Tull, David Bowie, James Taylor, Dave Brubeck, The Bangles, Rickie Lee Jones, and Supertramp. She made her film debut starring in the disco classic Thank God It's Friday and has performed on American Bandstand and Midnight Special.
Her television career has also included roles in Nip/Tuck, Murder She Wrote, Columbo, Empty Nest, The Unit and Beverly Hills 90210. On Broadway, she starred in Neil Simons I Ought to Be in Pictures. Her career has found her acting opposite Angela Lansbury, Betty White, Art Carney, Bob Newhart, Martin Sheen, Doris Roberts, Jill Clayburgh, John Stamos, Brad Davis, Carol Kane, Nancy Walker, Peter Falk, Jack Klugman, Bea Arthur and others.
Over the last four years, Landsburg and members of the Fame cast have been brought back together to perform music from the series for recent sold out performances in Los Angeles, Italy, England, and Israel.
In addition to original songs, the program will also feature pieces by Cyndi Lauper, Elton John, Neil Young, Gillian Welch, Joni Mitchell, and David Bowie. She will also be joined by special musical guests.
