Field Trip! Dinkytown: Forever Young Walking Tour
Hennepin History Museum
Minneapolis, MN
Share this event:

John Pillsburys decision to locate the University of Minnesota on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River set the stage for Dinkytowns destiny as a dynamic commercial district that has inspired generations of people to explore new ideas and try out different personas. This tour explores Dinkytowns early commercial years, signature buildings, legacy businesses, and its role in the student protests of the 1960s. Because of its proximity to the U of M, Dinkytown has always been subject to the winds of change and cycles of urban growth and decline, accompanied by fears that it will be irreparably changed. Yet, with each new generation, it revives itself like the seasons, as each fall new students, faculty, and staff pass through on their way to the University, all simultaneously leaving their mark on Dinkytown as well as being marked by it. Bonus site includes Hubert Humphrey's first residence in Minneapolis.

Hennepin History Museum's Interim Director, Cara Letofsky, will be your guide on this half-mile walk.

We will meet at the NE corner of University Ave and 14th Ave SE, on the corner of the bridge.
