Lust For Youth Cold wave gone buoyant synth pop in the vein of early Depeche Mode and New Order. New album out now on Sacred Bones.
"Crystalline, slick and glistening... this would have both Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook swooning." - NME
Pirouetting on decadence, meeting eyes with a dizzy sensation, falling and flying at the same timeLust for Youth have continually held poise through the most vitalizing of times. Their new album, a self-titled collection of eight songs, is sure-footed where they had earlier feared to tread, and light-headed for a new set of reasons. The album is driven by a dance-pop agenda, hustling its way through upbeat peaks that level out into reflective ballads. While still taking clear cues from a crop of austere synth-pop, Lust for Youth sound brighter than they ever have before, taking tips from some of the flirtiest Eurobeat to aid their new direction.
"CRACK CLOUD are certainly unconventional: a multimedia collective of Canadian musicians, film-makers, artists and designers, made up of recovering addicts and people who work with mental health patients and people with addiction. Their influences stretch from Gang of Four and Talking Heads to Fela Kuti, Malcolm X and hip-hop. Thus far, the band have recorded two excellent EPs and are recording an album that will be more informed by hip-hop, with less post-punk tropes and more storytelling, says Choy. Onstage and off, they are unmistakable; their dense videos and screen-printed outfits have the paramilitary chic of anarchist punk collectives Crass or Chumbawamba. We all live together and some of us are siblings, Choy explains. If people think we look like a cult, then we are making our mark. But living Crack Cloud 24/7 goes deeper than clothing. The band is our recovery programme, keyboardist Mohammad Ali Sharar explains. Pouring ourselves into it is a way of staying alive, or at least sober and together. So we cant do anything by half-measures. - The Guardian

Las Sucias Las Sucias is a duo formed by Danishta Rivero and Alexandra Buschman, mixing anti-patriarchal riotgrrrl lyrics, afro- caribbean rhythms, brujerÃa noise and possessed vocals. Each performance is a ritual that combines all of the senses and elevates into a higher realm, inspiring the listener to dance, speak in tongues, laugh hysterically and get possessed by the spirits awoken.
DJ Omar Perez was raised in the thriving musical subcultures of Washington, D.C. where he was exposed to sounds such as hardcore, post-punk, Hi-NRG and go-go at concerts and clubs. He credits this early education for the eclectic and open-minded slant he brings to mixing records. Ask him about his favorite artists and he'll offer up a list of strange bedfellows that includes Lime, Rites Of Spring, Depeche Mode and Einsturzende Neubauten. Few other DJs in San Francisco can speak of playing such a wide variety of sounds, preferring instead to stay within the genre lines. Omar's multivariate approach resonates with many people and whose tastes may be equally as broad including the following artists whoch he has opened for : Pete Shop Boys, Grace Jones, Duran Duran, Glass Candy, Chromatics, NItzer Ebb, Lana Del Rey, The Killers, Glass Animals, LCD Soundsystem, Boyharsher, The Faint and many others.
