Outdoor Art Workshop
About the day:

Artist Poppy Richards will facilitate this day of outdoor art inspired by the works of Anya Gallaccio (who brings the outdoors indoors) and other contemporary artists.

Well start with a look at the exhibition NOW 5 to do some warm up drawing exercises and explore questions related to the artworks:

preservation versus destruction
nature versus culture
change versus permanence
copy versus original

After lunch well head outdoors to make some site specific art and experiment with ways of preserving natural forms: casting/ making natural pigments/ cyanotype sunprints. If the weather is awful, well make the most of it and do some puddle painting!

Please come prepared for all weather - i.e. bring your sun-cream, wellies & a  woolly hat just in case

About the exhibition:

The artists in NOW 5 will be Anya Gallaccio, Roger Hiorns, Charles Avery, Zineb Sedira, Aurélien Froment and Peles Empire. Linked thematically by concepts of transformation and translation these artists examine the mutability of the world around us, exploring the idea that change is fundamental to our experience of reality.

Anya Gallaccio:
Using all kinds of organic materials, including trees, flowers, candles, sand and ice, she creates temporary works that change over time through natural processes of transformation and decay. In Gallaccios art, flowers rot, candles drip, chocolate festers and sugar melts. Sweet, pretty things become putrid and ugly. But its not all death and decay; when a flowers petals drift and fade its seeds create new life. Her work therefore challenges the notion that an art object should be a monument within a museum or gallery. Instead, her work lives through the memory of those who saw and experienced it.
