An Evening with David Sedaris
Online sales will end at noon 6/7, but signing line tickets will be available at the door from 3:00 p.m. until David leaves the building!
All tickets are $20.00, include a paperback copy of Calypso and admission to the booksigning portion of the program. Tickets in Tiers 1-3 include admission to Davids talk. General Admission tickets are for the booksigning line meet and greet following the talk.
Program format:
David Sedaris will speak to ticket holders in Tiers 1 through 3 inside the bookstore for about 45 minutes, followed by a Q&A opportunity. Speakers will broadcast the event outside the store, allowing for listeners in the immediate vicinity of the store to experience David's full talk.
A book signing will follow, and David will first autograph books by ticket holders in order of purchase:
Tier One, Tier Two Tier Three, and General Admission. He will then greet people without tickets, i.e., folks who did not buy a paperback copy of Calypso through Left Bank Books event ticketing procedure.

Inside the store seating and standing room is extremely limited! Do not delay if you want to hear and/or see David before the book signing.
Tier 1 tickets are on a first come basis and include seating in the main area of the store where it is possible to see and hear David.
Tier 2 tickets are on a first come basis and include seating on the main floor in an area with limited to no visibility.
Tier 3 tickets are on a first come basis and include standing and sitting room on the bookstores lower level where you can hear but you wont be able to see.
General Admission Signing Line tickets provide admission to the book signing after the presentation.
FAQs
I got a ticket. Can I pick up my book early?
You can pick up your book anytime after 3 pm on Friday, June 7.
I got a ticket but didn't come to the event after all. Can I still have my book?
You can pick up your autographed, prepaid copy of Calypso or contact us to arrange to have it shipped to you for 99 cents, anytime before July 7, 2019. Individuals who do not pick up their copy of Calypso or arrange to have it shipped by July 7, 2019, will forfeit their book.

I got an inside-the-store ticket. What should I expect?
Please refer to the description of each tier in the ticket information for seating and standing room information.
If you have any special needs, or physical limitations, please contact info@left-bank.com to ensure that we can accommodate you.
You will be admitted to the store, please plan to arrive no later than 5:30, and, depending upon the ticket you have, you will be able to see and/or hear David's presentation and participate in the q&a session after. You will then be prioritized for the booksigning according to your ticket tier.
What time should I get there?
We will be closing the store for set-up at 2:30 p.m. and reopening for Tier 1-3 ticket holders only at 3:30 p.m. We anticipate that an outdoor line will likely form well in advance of this. If you line up beforehand, please be respectful of the neighborhood and keep the sidewalk clear for pedestrians. We recommend arriving no later than 5:30.
Will there be any refreshments?
There will be bottled water and emergency snacks for blood sugar issues. You may bring in a non-alcoholic beverage and light snacks if needed, but we will be at full capacity and for safety reasons, you will not be able to have a picnic dinner in our store! So please plan accordingly! And please clean up after yourself!

So, I got a General Admission Ticket. What does that mean?
You get a paperback copy of Calypso
You get a wristband with for your assigned book signing group.
You will be pre-sorted into a group to be admitted to the store to meet David, and have your copy of Calypso, plus anything else written by David, personalized and autographed.
You mean I don't get to hear Sedaris's talk?
If you arrive in time and fit on the sidewalk in front of our store, you may be able to listen to the presentation via the outside speakers. Otherwise, plan to show up only for the booksigning portion of the program.
Why didn't you hold this event at a larger venue?
Because David's contract with his speaking agency requires that his book promotion tours take place inside a bookstore. We are not able to take the event to a larger space.
David is legendary for taking his time with all of his fans.
I am in a General Admission signing group. How long should I expect to wait?
You should expect to wait for a while! It is unlikely that David will make his way to the General Admission line until at least 8 pm or later. Left Bank Books will be tweeting David's progress, so if you stay connected, you can have dinner in the area, or even somewhere else. We will keep you updated so you don't have to stand in line on the sidewalk for the entire time. If you missed the call for your group because you haven't finished dinner or something, get in line anyway.
PLEASE NOTE: Our last in-store book signing with David Sedaris lasted 10, yes ten, hours. So pay attention to our social media and enjoy your evening in the Central West End to its fullest! And remember, it is always worth waiting to meet David!
FOR SEDARIS FANS WHO DON'T HAVE TICKETS AND JUST SHOW UP
I already have Calypso, or I don't want to buy Calypso, can I still come and get something autographed?
Yes. If you don't buy a General Admission ticket (that comes with a very giftable paperback copy of Calypso) you can wait until all ticket holders have gone through the line after which it will be your turn. David is committed to meeting all of his fans. BE ADVISED: It is entirely possible that your turn will come after midnight.

Where can I park?
In addition to the metered parking on Euclid and McPherson, St. Louis Parking has a pay lot (credit card only) block north of the bookstore on Euclid. It will set you back $5.
There is also a pay parking garage two blocks south of us on Euclid next to the Schlafly Branch of the St. Louis Public Library.
This is a long night! Where can I eat?
The Central West End is full of wonderful restaurants. Please refer to The Central West End Scene to find your options. Check back on the David Sedaris Facebook event page for special offers from our restaurant neighbors.
Can I take pictures?
Short answer: NO. David Loves his fans with a capital L, so even though he doesn't like to take pictures, he does like to spend as much time as he sees fit with each person.
Will David sign anything besides Calypso?
David will sign anything he has written, that he has not already autographed, including magazines with articles by him in them. He will NOT sign anything written by someone else. He will NOT sign body parts.
What if it rains/snows/hails/anything else St. Louis weather can throw at us?
This event will continue rain or shine and there is no possibility of an alternate venue. If you are outside, you should dress and accessorize appropriately. Again, while you will need to be near the store to hear the listening party, during the signing line, you can go anywhere, including many area restaurants that are open late, and watch our Twitter for your cue to return to the store. If the weather becomes dangerous, we will update everyone in-person and online in real-time.
