An Evening with Paul Kurrey
Philadelphia's Paul Kurrey began a life in music at an early age. He was introduced to the love of music by his mother Lillian, who was an accomplished cellist. At age 5 he was giving keyboard recitals at the Curtis Institute. By age 13 he was jamming with the likes of Eric Bazilian (The Hooters) and Richard Ray Adler (Dukes of Destiny). In his early 20s he played in a blues band and sold out venues like the Starlight Ballroom. In the time that has passed since those days he has continued to perform, write and record.
Kurrey was a cast member in the documentary "Meet Me on South Street: The Story of JC Dobbs" (2011), which was produced by George Manney. Kurrey's history with the legendary venue spans many years and includes countless performances, most notably with the band Boom that included Jamison Smoothdog and Stewkey (the vocalist from Todd Rundgren's band Nazz). They performed unplugged long before the pop culture of today coined the term and made it "cool." It was quite possibly the first acoustic rock band in Philly.
Kurrey is known for his tell-it-like-it-is, in-your-face lyrics that are masked by beautiful melodic tunes. Join us at The Living Room for an evening to celebrate Kurrey and his music. For more information visit www.facebook.com/PAUL-KURREY-110090255695598.
