Farm Walk 2019 - Bluebird Grain Farms
Organic Heirloom Grains From Plow to your Plate! Find out how Bluebird Grain Farms uses cover crops and other soil health management practices to care for the earth they farm in the Methow Valley. Our host, farmer Sam Lucy will discuss tools for monitoring soil health such as soil and water testing and the importance of his cover crop regimen. We will also get a taste of what it means to be a plow-to-package grain farm as we touch on Bluebird Grain Farms processing operations including why they decided to vertically integrate and how they control for quality to produce fresh, safe, and delicious grains.
*We will meet at the Winthrop Barn (51 WA-20, Winthrop, WA 98862) where there will be restroom facilities. We will then carpool to Bluebird Grain Farms fields and granary.

WSU Food Systems and Tilth Alliance have been collaboratively presenting the Farm Walk Series for over 16 years! These farmer-to-farmer educational events are hosted by organic, sustainable, and innovative farm and food businesses throughout Washington State. We reach over 450 attendees each year seeking education, advice, and mentorship from experienced farmers, agricultural professionals, and WSU researchers and specialists. Held throughout the year in geographically diverse areas of the state, the unique expertise developed by established growers and researchers is shared experientially through a guided walk-and-talk style.
