Los Chuchos
Los Chuchos are Rafael Freyre (bass/vocals), Raul Freyre (vocals/percussion), Gary Wittner (guitar/vocals) and Lenny Hatch (percussion). The group has been playing Latin music - together and separately in other groups for many years. They play instrumental and vocal arrangements of traditional Son music from Cuba, as well as Latin Jazz, Samba, and original compositions.
Gary Wittner and Raul Freyre started playing together in 2005 as the duo Dos Canosos. Wittner, a jazz guitarist with a career spanning 4 decades and 5 continents, has released 7 CDs and represented the USA overseas as a Jazz Ambassador, Fulbright Specialist and US Embassy Outreach Artist. Raul Freyre, a native Cuban, had been performing Latin styles since the 1970s in Miami, Boston, and Maine. A true Cuban vocalist, Raul was taught some of the songs by his grandmother in Cuba.
More recently, the duo added bassist/vocalist Rafael Freyre. He is one of the most in-demand bassists in Maine, and has worked with Sly Chi, Raging Brass, Primo Cubano and numerous other groups. He also plays timbale and tuba. Percussionist Lenny Hatch is the most recent member of the group. Lenny has been performing in Rock and Latin groups in Northern New England since the 1970s.
