When despair for the world grows in me . . . I come into the peace of wild things . . . . I rest in the grace of the world, and am free. Wendell Berry.
We will present choral works evoking the wonders of nature and joy of life from traditional choral masters Brahms, Schubert, Stanford, and Thompson, as well as contemporary composers Ola Gjeilo, Eric Whitacre, Morten Lauridsen, Paul Basler, John Rutter, and Gwyneth Walker.
DCA is a community chorus of approximately thirty-five auditioned singers with a mission to present significant works of secular and sacred choral music in performances of artistic excellence that inspire and uplift audiences and nurture the appreciation and enjoyment of choral music.
DCA's Music Director is Mark Tuning, now in his sixth season. Under his direction DCA has become known for innovative programs of significant choral works in Contra Costa County. Mark has extensive experience as a vocal conductor, soloist, and orchestral director throughout the Bay Area, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, and Illinois. He is also Music Director for Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church.
Our accompanist John R.S. Walko will perform Edvard Grieg's lyric piece for piano Schmetterling (Butterfly). John is the organist at Calvary Presbyterian Church in San Francisco. He plays regularly at the San Francisco Legion of Honor, and accompanies the San Francisco City Chorus and Bella Musica in Berkeley. John is also a guest artist with the San Francisco Bach Choir and San Francisco Choral Society.
