Lorca Hart ALL-Star Quartet featuring Ralph Moore
This quartet features 4 amazing musicians
Drummer Lorca Hart grew up in Taos, New Mexico in a musical family. He was exposed to a variety of instruments and musical styles as a child but early on it became clear that the drumset was his passion. He attended California Institute of the Arts from 1992-96, studying with Albert "Tootie" Heath, Joe La Barbera, Charlie Haden, Wadada Leo Smith, and many others. Since that time Lorca has worked consistently in a variety of musical situations, performing with many of the West Coast's (and beyond) finest artists including : Ralph Moore, Carmen Lundy, Freddie Hubbard, Calvin Keys, Stanley Jordan, Craig Handy, Kyle Eastwood, Hugh Masekela, Bobby Rodriguez, the Clayton Brothers, Anthony Wilson. He also leads his own trio featuring Josh Nelson on piano and Edwin Livingston on bass. Lorca can be heard on recordings by Hugh Masekela, John Heard, Justo Almario, Ronald Muldrow, Dave Pike, Phil Ranelin, the Cross Hart Jazz Experience, and the Lorca Hart Trio.
Josh Nelson has performed with some of the most respected names in jazz, including Kurt Elling, John Pizzarelli, Benny Golson, Sheila Jordan, John Clayton, George Mraz, Jeff Hamilton, Dave Koz, Joe Chambers and Peter Erskine. Nelson toured with legendary vocalist Natalie Cole for six years and continues to tour with vocalists Gaby Moreno, Freda Payne, Alicia Olatuja, Sara Gazarek, accordionist Richard Galliano, saxophonist Tom Scott, multi-instrumentalist Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and violinist Christian Howes. He taught jazz for four years at Soka University and more recently at Cal State University Northridge. In 2006, Nelson was a semi-finalist in the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition.
Ralph Moore began his professional career with a tour of Scandinavia in 1979. He moved to New York the following year to be part of Horace Silver's band from 1981 to 1985, including four tours of Europe and Japan, and recordings. He then played with numerous musicians,including Roy Haynes (around 198286), Darrell Grant (198687), Dizzy Gillespie's reunion band (1987), Freddie Hubbard (around 198791), and Gene Harris (198990).Starting in 1995, he was part of Kevin Eubanks's band for The Tonight Show.
Edwin Livingston has played and recorded with many notable artists and greats. He has performed and/or recorded with: Elvin Jones, Ellis, Delfeayo, and Jason Marsalis, The Headhunters, Los Hombres Calientes (Grammy nominated Latin Jazz album), Bill Summers, David Fathead Newman, The MONK'estra, Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, Tootie Heath, Queen Latifah, The Wichita symphony Orchestra, Vince Mendoza, Bob Mintzer(Grammy nominated large ensemble album) , Yellowjackets, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Jovanotti, Keiko Matsui, Melody Gardot, Seal, Natalie Cole and many others. In addition to a full playing, touring, and recording career he is on the faculty at the USC Thornton School of Music, teaching bass & small ensembles in the jazz studies department. He is also part of the faculty of the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts(LACHSA).
