Woodcraft Weekend III
Who: You! and any one you might know that is interested in wood, woodcraft, building, milling, tools and general fun outside.
What: A three day workshop series, where we will take a tree from "Standing to Structure". We will start off with basic chainsaw usage and the fundamentals of felling a tree. We will then move on to milling the tree for lumber with a Lucas mobile mill, learning several ways to cut and dry lumber. We will finish the weekend with a lesson in green timber framing using traditional hand tools.
In between the formal lessons there will be plenty of time relaxing, and trips to the spectacular Middle Fork of the Eel river. Nights will be gathered round a fire. While the accommodations are basic (bring a tent and camping gear.) All meals will be prepared by our Talented friend Miguel!
When: May 24th-26th. Tentative schedule: Friday. Arrive on site between 2pm and whenever you can...There will be an orientation and a group dinner (provided) and campfire
Sat. Breakfast/Chainsaw Safety and Maintenance/Lunch/ Felling and prepping for milling/Dinner/Campfire
Sunday: Breakfast/Timber-framing & Joinery Primer/ Lunch/Pack up & fare the wells.
Monday: Bonus Day!, if you wish to hang out its Memorial Day, this will be informal but fun.
Where: The Frontier Arts Forest Campus, outside Covelo, CA. Along the Middle Fork of the Eel River. Specific Address and location will be sent with registration information. The facilities here are basic and include: Fresh spring water, Composting toilets, an outdoor kitchen, and a"common" tent cabin. All participants are expected to bring their own camping and sleeping gear. There is no electricity on site and most cell phones don't work here, Sorry. Amazing home cooked meals will be provided!
