To celebrate "Empathy Week" in Calgary, Connections is hosting a screening of "Gabrielle."
Gabrielle is a cognitively challenged woman living in a group home in Montreal. When she falls in love with a similarly challenged young man in her choir, she discovers that both the families and the social workers are alarmed Can these two handle and adult relationship?
"Gabrielle" was made in Montreal in 2013 by Louise Archambault. The star is Gabrielle Marion-Rivard who has Williams syndrome. The film won 6 Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Picture.
Connections is pleased to host this FREE screening. Both entertaining and thought-provoking, "Gabrielle" is a real gem. Connections is an agency that has, for 30 years, supported adults with cognitive challenges to parent successfully. Thirty years later, we often encounter people who have difficulty accepting adults with disabilities choosing to have intimate relationships and to marry and have children.
"Gabrielle reminds us, through love and music, that perception is not reality and that prejudice is an attitude, not a truth." Peter Howell, The Toronto Star
