CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

- BEADING 101 -

Saturday, January 11, 2020
8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This class is the perfect introduction to beading, and teaches students multiple ways of working with beads. Bead placement with crochet hooks and superfloss; working with pre-strung beads in a variety of ways; working with beads on bind-offs and i-cord are among some of the approaches that we'll be discussed. Choosing beads and yarn, and modifying your current patterns to accommodate beading, will be addressed. This class is for knitters who possess basic knitting skills (able to knit and purl, and driven to learn) and who are ready to take their knitting up a notch with embellishment.  Students should bring  approximately 40 yards of fingering weight yarn, US Size 3 (3.25 mm) needles, and approximately 10 grams of size 6/0 beads to match their yarn.

- THE NOVUS SWEATER -

Sunday, January 12, 2020
8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

In this intermediate class, Laura introduces you to the Novus construction, her seamless yet structured modern approach to the side-to-side sweater. Shell cover how the construction works, how to modify the construction to fit your body, any necessary skills needed for the construction (i.e. provisional cast on, lifted increases, German short rows), and how to plug a stitch pattern or motif into it. Laura will discuss how to choose yarn to knit your sweater, and gauge modifications. In class you will work up a mini Novus sweater to ensure that all the skills needed are practiced and understood.

Registration Fee: $149.00

Registration includes:
- Two classes (one on Saturday, one on Sunday)
- Morning coffee and beverage service
- Hearty continental brunch served mid-session
- Berroco Gift Bag of Spring 2020 yarn samples

ABOUT LAURA NELKIN

Laura Nelkin lives in upstate New York, where the sunny season is short, leaving plenty of time to be indoors knitting.

Educated in apparel design at Cornell University, Laura took to knitting years ago, and hasnt looked back. Her knitwear designs and techniques are innovative and fun, and will challenge knitters to think in new ways about their craft.

Laura is currently enamored with unexpected sweater construction, with lace, and with incorporating beading into lace.  Thus most of her designs lean in this direction.  She travels regularly to teach these techniques, giving workshops around the country as well as online at craftsy.com. Occasionally she travels abroad to share her instructional techniques to international audiences.

The N Club, and Lolas Choice are two clubs that Laura runs each year, providing great ways to learn and explore what you can do with knitting needles.

Laura also has a line of knitting kits, and self-published knitting patterns, and her most recent Random House book, Knockout Knits, available for purchase online and at shows.  Several times each year, she runs mystery Knit-a-Longs.

Outside of designing and knitting, Laura can be found in her garden, or in her kitchen whipping up family feasts.  She boasts a healthy addiction to yoga and hiking, and her daily bouts of physical activity provide a great balance to her knitting activity.
