Edmund Gerald, Jerry, Brown Jr. served as Californias 34th and 39th Governor (1975-1983) and (2011-2019). With four terms as Governor, he is the longest-serving chief executive of the state of California. Miriam Pawel is the author of The Browns of California: The Family Dynasty that Transformed a State and Shaped a Nation, a 2018 Los Angeles Times Book Prize finalist. William Deverell is Director of the Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West, and Professor of History at the University of Southern California.
