Jazz Junction 2019: A Jazz Community Celebration
On Saturday, June 1st at 7:30pm, the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium & Full Compass present Jazz Junction 2019, a benefit concert that celebrates our jazz community's progress over the past decade and honors Dr. John Schaffer as he retires from the UW Mead Witter School of Music. The event will raise funds to support the Jazz Consortium's vital programs and services, including the upcoming Isthmus Jazz Fest (June 7-16).
The year 2012 saw two major jazz community milestones: the birth of the Consortium and the launch of UW's new Jazz Studies program. And it was largely through Professor Schaffer's leadership that the necessary funds were raised, an endowed professorship was created, and the dynamic Johannes Wallmann was brought to campus as the Jazz Studies Program's first Director.
Over the past 7 years, the Jazz Consortium has created an array of popular performance and education programs that bring the joys of jazz to thousands of youth and adults each year. At the same time, the UW Jazz Studies program has blossomed with the hiring of more faculty, creation of new student jazz ensembles, and establishment of a Jazz Performance major.
In keeping with our theme, Jazz Junction will feature performances by Professors Schaffer and Wallmann along with fellow members of the UW jazz faculty and a rotating cast of our communitys outstanding local musicians. Light snacks will be served.
Tickets for this benefit concert are $30 for the show. Advance tickets purchased online are $5 off through 5:30pm on June 1st.
**TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR**
