Join Shakirah Simley (Canner. Educator. Advocate. Gastronome. Entrepreneur.) for this unique 2.5-hour hands-on class, culminating in a delicious, three-course blackberry dinner! You will learn simple and quick preserving techniques that bode well for summertime cooking and entertaining. And while you will focus on one fresh, seasonal berry (the blackberry!), you will be able to apply these base recipes to a variety of summer fruits, and become adept at integrating them into sweet and savory recipes alike.

Shakirah Simley is a beloved 18 Reasons instructor, the founder of Slow Jams, and Bi-Rite Market's Community Coordinator. She taught herself to can and preserve "through many hours of practice, voracious reading and research," and was awarded a prestigious one-year Fulbright fellowship to attend the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, Italy. Her Slow Jams flavors consist of unique delicacies such Urban Meyer Lemon Curd, Brown Sugar Pear Butter, Summer Berry Jam, and Vanilla Blenheim Apricot Preserve.
