PQ Sessions and the Jazz Plus series present:
Midsummer's Evening of Piano Improvisations Pianist-composer Tamir Hendelman performs originals and improvisations on a Louis XV Steinway masterfully rebuilt by David Andersen Award-winning pianist-composer Tamir Hendelman brings an evening of piano improvisations to the Sherman Oaks home of an art and music lover, performing on a masterfully rebuilt Louis XV 1925 Steinway B, courtesy of piano technician extraordinaire David Andersen. The evening will be a feast for the ears with musical delights inspired by Tamir's travels and interactions with other artists. Poems, works of art, family, friends and stories of travel will serve as inspiration for spontaneous improvisations. There will likely be some familiar melodies, transformed to meld with the relaxed summer evening in a setting that will invite moments of musical surprise and connection. The atmosphere will be light and breezy and and non-alcoholic juices and refreshments will be served. song or two from the Great American songbook may appear, or perhaps an Israeli folk song- we'll see how the wind blows. It will be an in-the-moment experience, where the audience will be invited to (if the spirit moves them) share some of the art that inspires them, perhaps a short poem or musing- and a few of these will be shared and read- and reflected on by Tamir with some more spontaneous piano pieces. Tamir Hendelman is known as a leader of his own trio with two jazz chart topping releases under his name, as well as a long-time member of the Jeff Hamilton Trio and Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, and has performed and recorded with vocalists Roberta Gambarini, Natalie Cole, Tierney Sutton and Barbra Streisand. He has performed with orchestras, including a new rendition of Rhapsody In Blue- and given solo recitals celebrating the music of Cole Porter, Thelonius Monk and Dizzy Gillespie. Most recently, he has led interdisciplinary arts workshops at schools such as Oberlin, Idyllwild Academy and the Cranbrook Academy- weaving performances which combine film/dance/theatre/creative writing and music. This solo evening of improvisations promises to be a memorable evening. You will receive the address when you order your tickets. Bring the whole family for a relaxed and artistic evening of music.
