Matt Glaser Trio Live at the Lutherie
Matt Glaser chaired the strings department at Berklee for over twenty years, and now heads Berklees American Roots Music Program. His life long exploration of jazz, bluegrass, and the rich terrain in between has afforded him the opportunity to play with such varied artists as Stephane Grappelli, Yo Yo Ma, Bob Dylan, Ralph Stanley, David Grisman, Andy Statman, Lee Konitz you get the idea! He also served as an advisor and onscreen commentator for Ken Burns PBS Jazz documentary series, and contributed to the soundtrack for Burns Civil War series. Matts recent instructional book, Fiddle Tunes on Jazz Changes, teaches students to develop jazz solos using melodic fragments from traditional fiddle tunes. Matt has said, When Im playing jazz there is always an element of bluegrass mixed in. And when Im playing bluegrass, there is always an element of jazz. This trio draws more explicitly from jazz and swing sources, but dont be surprised if you hear some other elements over the course of the evening. Brittany Karlson is a sought-after bassist in jazz and acoustic music worlds, and she holds down the low end in the Goodbye Girls, a popular group combining bluegrass, old-time, and Swedish traditional folk sounds. Jon Wheatley is a longtime guitar professor at Berklee and has appeared on dozens of recordings, including his own 2004 release Guitar on the Loose in London. Hes been a sideman for many performers including Diana Krall, Karrin Allyson, Sweets Edison and Gunther Schuller. Hes performed extensively in the U.S. and Europe.
