This walking tour will explore the early history of Chinatown, its move south from the Loop, and other surprising ethnic history of the area. Historically significant storefronts, architectural oddities and other forgotten gems will be examined. Additionally, the tour will explore some of the surrounding areas, including industrial areas along the Chicago River where architecturally significant but overlooked factory structures still loom large.
Following the tour, an optional lunch/tea is available for an additional $12. This will take place at the Phoenix Restaurant located at 2131 S. Archer Ave. A sampling of Chinese dishes including fried rice, spring rolls, noodles and dessert will be offered.

Meet at the southeast corner of the intersection at Archer and Wentworth Ave near the CTA #R22 Shuttle Stop.
Transportation:
Chinatown is accessible on the CTA via the Red Line L and Bus. Due to construction on the Red Line, exit the L at the Roosevelt Station. Walk west to State and Roosevelt where you will take the #R22 Shuttle Bus which will drop off at the tour starting point.
You can also take the #62 Archer bus which will stop near the tour starting point.
Another option is taking the Wendella Water Taxi that stops in Chinatown at Ping Tom Park. http://www.chicagowatertaxi.com/SitePages/Home.aspx There is a short walk from the Park to the tour starting point at Archer and Wentworth.
Parking: There are two parking lots located at Archer and Wentworth Avenue.
