Larry Vuckovich Trio
Before the modern jazz piano trios of piano/bass/drums such as Bud Powell, Oscar Peterson and Hank Jones trio's, the original jazz piano trio included the combination of piano/guitar/bass. Nat King Cole popularized this format and at times Art Tatum also played in this combination. Vince Guaraldi's first recordings featured this style combo and the hard swinging pianist Wynton Kelly recorded in this combination with Kenny Burrell as well.
Larry Vuckovich is excited to bring this swinging jazz trio concept to the Tucker Farm Center in Calistoga featuring the outstanding Bay Area veteran Jeff Chambers on bass, and the young, new discovery on the guitar, Kai Lyons.
Pianist Larry Vuckovich has played and recorded with jazz greats Jon Hendricks, Mel Torme, Irene Kral, Joe Williams, and Bobby McFerrin among others. He has won acclaim from critics and jazz audiences for his deeply imaginative style and repertoire heard at prestigious North American and European jazz clubs, concert halls and festivals. He is as equally at home in world music and classically influenced modal jazz as he is in hard-swinging bebop, post-bop, contemporary jazz, and down-home blues. The New York Times notes that his unique outlook and collection of influences "set him apart from most pianists who are heard regularly in New York"."San Francisco pianist Larry Vuckovich has been an accompanist, bandleader and world-jazz pioneer over seven decades. His album Somethin' Special is exactly that. His playing sparkles with understated wit... He's telling a story... It's the work of a master." -Andrew Gilbert, columnist for San Francisco Chronicle, Boston Globe, Jazz Times, Down Beat.
