Practical Steps to Preventing Alzheimer's Disease -- Dr. Mary Genevieve & Vic Lewis

At this course you will learn what is now known about Alzheimer's Disease from scientists who study the brain.
Victor Lewis will start with a brief overview of the basic biology of the aging brain, based on content from UCSF Center on Aging,
Dr. Genevieve, a Board Certified General Neurologist, will follow with a discussion of the four pathways that are thought to lead to the development of Alzheimers Disease. These include 1) inflammation, 2) oxidation, 3) sugar and 4) fat dysregulation.
She will then present a five point practical plan on how one might affect these processes. This course is meant to supplement Rudy Xaviers course on Alzheimers (presented many times by LLCC) from the perspective of a practicing neurologist. Participants need not have attended Rudy's course to benefit from what you might learn here.
Dr. Mary Genevieve is a board certified neurologist working in private practice since 1997. As a general neurologist, she has over two decades of experience in evaluation and treating many disorders of the nervous system, including the brain and spinal cord, neurological diseases and conditions include headaches, movement disorders, demyelinating diseases, head trauma, dementia, and many more. She maintains a clinical practice in San Luis Obispo, is active in clinical Alzheimers research and serves a legal expert witness. She has an undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and a medical degree from George Washington University. She has worked the Peace Corps and done research with Food and Drug Administration. She is not currently taking new patients.
Victor Lewis, retired Air Force Lt. Colonel, is a graduate of UCLA, Harvard Business School, Air War College, and faculty of the Air University. He has taught business management subjects at several colleges and universities as an adjunct professor. He has presented several Lifelong Learning courses including courses on memory and the brain.
