Symbols are a profound expression of human experience and speak powerfully to our intellect, emotions, and spirit.
Symbols can be personal, cultural, and universal. They enhance art, literature, myths, film, and poetry, and are exploited in advertisements and political campaigns.
In this course, you will learn how to use pivotal Jungian concepts such as archetypes and shadow to comprehend the deeper meanings behind selected contemporary and ancient symbols.
Once you understand this, you will be able, in this, the evening of our lives, to create a more meaningful relationship to objects and events . Enhanced symbolic thinking will energize your life with new layers of perspective, insight and meaning.
At the first of two sessions you will be introduced to Jungs theory of symbolic thinking and its impact on cognition and emotions as well as show how certain symbols press our buttons, thereby creating a surprising unconscious resonance.
At the second session, you will be expected to bring to share an item of significant personal meaning or a personal symbol chart/poster. We will use what you all bring to delve deeper into the transformative power of consciously responding to and using symbols for our vitality and growth.
Berta Parrish, Ed.D, is a retired college educator, writer, and a certified Conscious Aging Facilitator with a strong background in Jungian and Archetypal Psychology. She has published articles on spiritual journaling, womens issues, and Wise Woman ceremonies. Berta also offers Practical Jung, Dream Questing, Elder Tales, and Conscious Aging workshops. Her book Wise Womans Way: A Guide to Growing Older with Purpose and Purpose guides women through the initiatory experience that our culture needs, yet lacks.
