Clave Gringa is a Seattle band, formed in 2008, to showcase Cuban-jazz compositions of Ann Reynolds. The energy and spirit of Clave Gringa reflects a commitment to an authentic expression of music and is an invitation to get up and move. Repertoire includes a broad spectrum of Cuban styles from Cuban son and danzon to rumba and Afro Cuban with an infusion of American jazz. Two band members are originally from Cuba; the band leader, Ann Reynolds, has studied in Cuba for many years. Other band members are very experienced Latin music players.
Clave Gringa celebrates Joy - the second release by Ann Reynolds/Clave Gringa of Anns original Cuban jazz compositions. Nine new compositions from cha-cha-cha to Afro-Cuban rumba and folkloric music take you on an authentic musical Cuban journey through the ears of a gringa who is almost Cuban. Ann is the gringa who has spent much time in Cuba studying authentic styles and fusing them with her jazz background. The resulting mix honors both the Cuban traditions and Anns life experience. The excellent musicians joining Ann in Clave Gringa are Kelsey Mines (bass), Daniel Barry (trumpet), Steve Smith (bongo) and Lalo Bello (congas).
