Ragamala & Seattle Tabla Institute present ~ Tarana Festival of South Asian Music ~, featuring the Access to Ustads Project, with 3 unique performances by Tarun Battacharya (santoor), Anupama Bhagwat (sitar), and Joshi Duo (vocal).

One of the leading disciples of Pandit Shri Bimalendu Mukherjee, doyen of the Imdadkhani Gharana, Anupamas style is characterized by scintillating fast taans, mastery of the meditative alaap, and brilliant fluency of melody (raaga-bhava).

Anupama has been conferred the title Surmani, by Sur Sringar Sansad, Bombay (1995). Early on, she had won First Position in the All India Radio (AIR) Music Competition (1994), as well as a HRD Scholarship from Government of India 1993-1996). Anupama obtained her Masters in music from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, India.

Viraj Joshi, a child prodigy, performs with his father Shri. Shrinivas Joshi, the son and grandson of legendary, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi.

At the tender age of 9 years, Viraj performed in the very prestigious festival Sawai Gandharv. In the year 2014, he has been awarded the esteemed Shri Shanmukhanand Bharat Ratna Dr. M S Subbalakshmi Fellowship.



*Concert #3 at 7pm*, Santoor: Tarun Battacharya, Tabla: Ravi Albright

Indias Global Music Ambassador, Santoor Maestro Pt. Tarun Bhattacharya is a pioneering and revolutionary musician who has changed the face of Indian classical music, as an unparalleled music artist of India.

He received talim from his father Pt. Rabi Bhattacharya, Pt. Dulal Roy and finally from sitar maestro Pt. Ravi Shankar.

One of the most celebrated torch bearers of Indian classical music he has virtually traversed the globe performing in some of most awe inspiring venues as Royal Albert Hall, Palace-de-Beaux (Brussels), Theater- De-La-Viile (France), Apollo Theatre (Spain), Jubilee Auditorium (Canada), Kremlin (Russia). The mesmerized list of admirers include Prince Charles, George Harrison, Paolo Solaris and many more respected figures across the Globe.
