Synopsis: Wildlife photographer, Frans Lanting, and videographer, Chris Eckstrom, collaborate on a film celebrating the Monterey Bay, their home ground for the past 30 years. The film explores images and stories about the Monterey Bay region--one of the hottest hot spots for biodiversity in North America, according to The Nature Conservancy. As a team, they portray the Monterey Bay the way they have profiled exotic ecosystems on other continents, but with a personal perspective embedded in the story. The images feature a remarkable cast of characters, from mountain lions and condors to sea otters and elephant seals, in a place that represents a unique convergence of land and sea, where endangered endemics mix with cosmopolitan migrants.
Directors: Frans Lanting has been hailed as one of the great nature photographers of our time. His influential work appears in books, magazines, and exhibitions around the world. For three decades he has documented wildlife from the Amazon to Antarctica to promote understanding about the Earth and its natural history through images that convey a passion for nature and a sense of wonder about our living planet. Chris Eckstrom is a writer, editor, and videographer whose work celebrates the wonder of the natural world and seeks to explore how people and wildlife can coexist. For the past twenty-five years she has worked with her husband and partner, Frans Lanting, on field assignments from the Amazon to Mongolia.
