Our 2019-2020 Season Theme: Baroque Masterclass
This season, you can dig deeper as we perform the music that inspires you. Hear familiar composers and works from a new perspective. Discover new masterworks. Come away with a greater appreciation and enjoyment of this glorious music. KMFA announcers will host each concert and be your guide on this musical adventure.
All concerts are performed at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on Alexander Avenue in Austin, Texas unless noted otherwise.
Concerts in this series are:
September 7th, 7:30pm and September 8th, 3pm Welcome Bach! We perform the earliest masterworks of J.S. Bach: 3 sublime cantatas (BWV 4, 106, and 196), an audacious toccata for harpsichord, and the unforgettable Toccata and Fugue in D minor for organ.
November 2nd, 7:30pm and November 3rd, 3pm Pachelbel - More Than the Canon Ever wonder why all you hear from Pachelbel is the Canon? We did too, only to discover a wealth of music of equal if not greater beauty. Come, let us share it with you. (Yes, we will play the Canon!) *Note both concerts will be at St. Martins Evangelical Lutheran Church in Austin.
January 4th, 7:30pm and January 5th, 3pm Getting a Handle on Handel We follow Handel from a precocious upstart in Hamburg, to his musical awakening while in Rome, to his triumphant arrival as a celebrated master in London. A 14-piece orchestra with soloists perform masterworks from this amazing musical journey.
March 14th, 7:30pm and March 15th, 3pm French Baroque? Oui! Oui! An intimate concert featuring the greatest French baroque chamber music from Couperin, Rameau, Jacquet de la Guerre, and others. *Note: The March 15 concert will be at First Presbyterian Church in Austin.
April 17th, 7:30pm and April 18th, 3pm Herd of Harpsichords with Anton Nel Its the latest installment in our -ever-popular Herd of Harpsichords series. This one features the world-renowned Anton Nel and director Keith Womer on harpsichord concertos by Mozart and Haydn, as well as two two-harpsichord concertos by CPE Bach. * Note this concert is on Friday and Saturday
