Vansire + BOYO at The Che Cafe
14 July, 2019
Live at The Che Cafe Vansire + BOYO
Vansire is the project of Josh Augustin and Samuel Winemiller, two high school friends from Minnesota that began recording music together after meeting on their schools drumline. An unabashedly DIY affair, all of their music is created in basements and bedrooms, self-released to a burgeoning online scene of bedroom pop listeners and creators.
Three years of grassroots hype has seen Vansire grow from a summer side-project to a legitimate musical name with wide-ranging collaborations and multiple releases. April 2018 saw the release of their album Angel Youth. Augustins ambient synth washes, Dilla-informed percussive sensibilities and bookish lyricism combine with Winemillers sweeping guitar landscapes and warbled, Bibio-esque tones to form a wholly unique sound. Aided by Isaac Winemillers easy going funk-infused bass stylings, the music is a sonic reflection of the Midwests driftless region which they call home.
BOYO is the eclectic, psych-pop brainchild of 22 year-old multi-instrumentalist Robert Tilden. The project was born out of the gradual dissolution of Bobby T & the Slackers, a cult-beloved garage band that Tilden started at 16. Since 2016, Tilden has feverishly released a series of albums, EPs and singles, all varying stylistically but retaining the sentimental chord progressions, ghostly, childlike vocals, and warped production that makes them consistently and uniquely BOYO.
