Gloria Galante, Jim Dragoni, and Rhenda Fearrington
Noted jazz artists Gloria Galante, Jim Dragoni, and Rhenda Fearrington visit The Living Room for an evening of pop and jazz standards. The date for this concert is now July 13. About Gloria Galante: Gloria Galante is a versatile musician, having entertained worldwide in the genres of jazz, classical, Latin, African and pop. She has performed in the orchestras of Jose Feliciano, Diana Ross, Frank Sinatra, Jr., and Luther Vandross. And she has established herself as the premiere jazz harpist in the Philadelphia area, having performed and recorded with legendary bassist Tyrone Brown and saxophonist Odean Pope, among others. She currently is principal harpist with the eclectic theremin-led Divine Hand Ensemble and she also performs solo concerts as well as with other artists. In addition to performing and recording, Ms. Galante is the professor of the harp program at West Chester University in a program that she created 30 years ago, and which has expanded under her tutelage. She recently hosted the 28th annual harp festival at the university, which she organized and founded. Ms. Galante is also an ensemble leader with Musicopia and is a teaching artist with the prestigious Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. In addition to performing and teaching, Ms. Galante is dedicated to using the harp as an instrument of healing. She is a certified music practitioner with Music for Healing and Transition. She plays for patients in hospitals and hospices and she is the first practitioner to play for in vitro fertilization patients during embryo transfers at Toll Center Abington Hospital. Among her 30 recordings she released two CDs of therapeutic harp music to benefit Susan G. Komen, an organization dedicated to finding the cure for breast cancer. About Jim Dragoni: Jim Dragoni is Philadelphia-based educator, composer and guitarist, whose clear, sharp and warm style and influences fit in that dynamic region occupied by John McLaughlin, Frank Zappa, Wes Montgomery and Larry Coryell. He has performed with Mose Allison, Odean Pope and Coryell. His performances have included the renowned venues and events including Lincoln Center, Philadelphia Folk Festival and River Blues Festival among many others. About Rhenda Fearrington: Rhenda Fearrington is a renowned jazz and soul singer whose credits include performing on Soul Train with her husband in a group called Mtume, a funk and soul group, in the 1980s. She then became a backup singer for Roberta Flack in 1980. Ms. Fearrington retired from the music business to raise a family and since her children are grown she has dedicated her life to her first love jazz. In addition to performing Ms. Fearrington is President of Jazz Bridge, a nonprofit organization dedicated to offering assistance to jazz and blues musicians in need in the Philadelphia area.
