No experience necessary. You don't even have to be funny.
Whether you are beginning stand-up comedy as a career, a fun side gig, or you're already in this hellish choice of a job, this class is for you. This is also a great class if you're just curious about stand-up or you want to try it out as an exercise in character building! Together, we'll plunge into the world of being alone on a stage with everyone expecting you to be amazing and pretending that this is no big deal.
This course will cover joke writing techniques, stage presence practices, and how to be self-led in everything you do as a stand-up comedian. We'll uncover anything holding you back from excellence and comfort on stage and integrate it into your voice as a comedian so that you leave feeling empowered in your human quirks rather than discouraged by them.
Janan Araujo-Siam
A walking stereotype, this half-white half-Palestinian, yoga teaching Muslim lesbian named Janan picked up comedy when she realized she loved making people laugh and, more importantly, the attention. Her humor is drawn from a deep self-awareness of human flaws and triumphs and she's guaranteed to make some sort of liquid escape your body. It's usually tears of laughter. Usually.
She's had many years of experience teaching in a variety of subjects and is excited to utilize all this experience to deliver an excellent course on stand-up comedy.
Students are allowed (though not encouraged) to miss up to 2 classes in this course. If a student misses more than 2 classes, he/she will not be permitted to continue to further advancements of any stand-up comedy courses offered by BETA until Intro to Stand-Up is completed.
Students are required to be on time to every class. Missing more than 30 minutes of any class will count as a missed class.
