Tunde Jegede in concert!
Tunde Jegede is a 21st century renaissance man who bridges African and European musical traditions. He is an internationally renowned kora player, cellist and composer, whose soul-stirring music blends the ebb and flow of traditional kora-playing with his own dynamic contemporary compositions.
In this unique solo concert listeners are taken on a journey to the heart of Malian griot culture bringing Tundes sound worlds and rich musical legacies to life. He will be joined on a few tunes by the internationally celebrated US cellist, Mike Block (who has played extensively with the Silk Road Ensemble) for a unique collaboration and musical meeting point of cultural expression that transcends boundaries.
A year and a half ago when he was last in Boston, Tunde was hosted by World Music/Crash Arts to do a performance for invited guests. Since that visit he has toured Europe and the UK, done recordings on various albums in London (including Silk Roads Mike Block) and has just completed a run as composer/performer in Shakespeares Globe production of Edward 11. He, along with Ron Wyman of Zerogravity Films have also continued work on the development of a feature documentary The River Niger Project celebrating the music culture along the Niger River in West Africa. Production will begin this summer in London.
This is a rare opportunity to see Tunde performing in Boston on kora and cello. There is limited seating at Third Life and tickets will sell fast. We hope you can make it!
