GLOBAL SOUNDSCAPES FESTIVAL - Concert #2 Vancouvers beloved Borealis String Quartet takes the stage with flutist Mark Takeshi McGregor, guitarist Adrian Verdejo and soprano Sarah Ablu in this chamber recital that features world premieres by BC composers Jennifer Butler, Kara Gibbs (with text by poet Carolyn Nakagawa); also music by Toru Takemitsu, Yuriko Kojima, Anthony Genge, and intercultural pioneer Elliot Weisgarber.
***** ABOUT THE GLOBAL SOUNDSCAPES FESTIVAL The VICOs annual Global Soundscapes Festival is a rich feast of sounds and rhythms, celebrating the intersection of Canadian cultures with musical traditions from all over the world. In 2019 the spotlight is on the instruments and traditions of Japan! We are excited to welcome international guest soloists Naomi Sato (sho), Harrie Starreveld (shakuhachi), Miyama Tokita-McQueen (koto), and Yuji Nakagawa (sarangi), alongside guest composers Tomoko Fukui from Tokyo and members of the Kyushu Okinawa Composers Association. These visiting artists will collaborate with a whos who of musicians, composers, and guest ensembles from BCs vibrant contemporary classical and world music scenes.
