Legendary Baroque Oboist/Maker Sand Dalton Comes To MusicInLosAltos
Sand and I met in London in 1975. He was touring Europe measuring old oboes, just after a successful engagement with the LA Chamber Orchestra. He had made his first oboe and brought to my house. We played a lot of music, and decided we should do concerts together we have been doing just that. This year I took advantage of having booked Sand for a nice orchestra gig, and in the empty days we are doing this show! Also the usual suspects from my family Marion Rubinstein (recorder) and Laura Rubinstein-Salzedo (violin). It is extravagant but fun to have two bass players - Roy Whelden on viola da gamba and violone, Laura Gaynon on cello. I first met Laura when she was a teenager in PACO. In a recent conversation, she agreed that she was playing continuo bass before she even knew what continuo was. All music that falls easily on the ears Bach, Telemann, Vivaldi, Janitch (who? you will like it, come and make a discovery.) As always, MusicInLosAltos concerts are informal, no requirement to sit still, a steady supply of tasty snacks, doors through which you can take a stroll and still enjoy the soundscape. One of my colleagues brought her kids to our last MusicInLosAltos concert and they gave it rave reviews.
