About Its like playing a piece of New York, says the guitar player from the Patti Smith Band and when you find out what the guitar is made out of, he literally is. Custom guitar maker Rick Kelly and his apprentice Cindy Hulej own and operate Carmine Street Guitars in Greenwich Village, where they build and repair handcrafted instruments made from reclaimed wood from old NYC hotels, churches, local buildings, and bars. Decked in wall-to-wall guitars, Rick runs his store like a quaint neighborhood cafe, sharing stories of how he came to own and operate the spot while musicians come in and strum, sharing stories of their own.
Featuring Jim Jarmusch, Bill Frisell, and many other musicians and artists, the film follows a day in the life of the store, offering a unique insight into the talented craftsmen that operate this historic establishment.
