Dare to dream.

Enjoy an evening of song for a wonderful cause! In The Impossible Dream, multi-award-winning soprano Jacqueline Ko celebrates the tenth anniversary of her first-ever charity benefit show by teaming up with pianist Karen Shumka to perform some of her greatest hits - from Sondheim to Schwartz, from Hamlet to Hamilton, from Madama Butterfly to Mulan. Go on a musical journey with the singer who "knows exactly what to do with an absolutely gorgeous voice" (Review Vancouver), then be sure to indulge at our delicious dessert buffet and enter to win thousands of dollars in prizes. In honour of the May 12th International Awareness Day for chronic neuroimmune diseases, 100% of proceeds will go to the ME | FM Society of BC.

Featuring
Jacqueline Ko, soprano
Karen Shumka, piano

Run time approx. 90 minutes with one intermission.

The story behind the show:
Performer, producer and disability advocate Jacqueline Ko has lived with the systemic neuroimmune disease Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) since age six. Despite the challenges of her illness, which left her bedbound for years, she has managed to become a multi-award-winning singer and the co-founder of Opera Mariposa. She is committed to using her passion for music to help others, and since producing her first Benefit + Awareness show at age seventeen she has raised nearly $70,000 for chronic neuroimmune disease treatment, research, education and patient support. Her story is featured in the book Lighting Up a Hidden World: CFS and ME by Valerie Free.

What is the ME/FM Society of BC?
The ME/FM Society of BC is a registered BC charity working to support people with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) and Fibromyalgia (FM) throughout British Columbia. Their purpose is to educate, inform and increase awareness of ME and FM within the health care community, government and public; to provide information, support and advocacy for patients and their families; and to promote state-of-the-art medical research, testing, diagnosis and treatments.
