EXMORTUS at Old Nick's Pub
he Southern California quartet Exmortus whose invigorating twin-guitar mix of neoclassical shred, Bay Area thrash, progressive death and traditional heavy metal has earned the group a devoted following. Co-founded a decade ago by then-teenage cousins Conan (vocals/guitar) and Mario Moreno (drums), EXMORTUS self-released several demos and EPs before signing with Heavy Artillery Records in 2007. The groups 2008 debut In Hatreds Flame and 2011 follow-up Beyond The Fall Of Time earned praise for their frighteningly aggressive thrash blended with both death metal and NWOBHM bluster (Blabbermouth), and their exuberant, shred-heavy live performances can convert even the most jaded heshers into enthusiastic headbangers.
In 2013 EXMORTUS announced their signing to Prosthetic Records (Lamb of God, All That Remains, Gojira) and began working on their most mature and best recording to date, Slaves to the Sword. Produced by Zack Ohren (All Shall Perish, Warbringer, Suffocation) at Castle Ultimate and featuring cover art from Philip Lawvere (Kreator, Celtic Frost) the album was released in February 2014 to overwhelming critical attention and stayed on Sirius XMs Liquid Metal most requested chart for most of the year. The release was followed by a year mainly spent on the road criss-crossing the US on tours alongside Dark Tranquillity/Omnium Gatherum; Lich King; Flotsam & Jetsam; Hatchet/Cellador; Arsis/Allegaeon, culminating with an appearance at Knotfest and a televised performance as the musical guest on a LA KISS arena football game.
EXMORTUS recently released their next album, Ride Forth, on Jan. 8th, again produced by Zack Ohren and utilizing more killer artwork from Philip Lawvere. The band have taken what they learned on the road and are destined to top previous outings and continuing as Metal Sucks put it a mix of thrash, death metal and shred that makes Exmortus absolutely irresistible. The album, recorded late summer, was set-up by a limited-edition single For The Horde and fall tours supporting Kyng and Marty Friedman, in addition to being the house band on a couple episodes of The Night Time Show with Stephen Kramer Glickman. Prosthetic is firmly behind the group and has earmarked them as a key developing artist priority for the label.
Supporting Exmortus are PDX trashmetal act Silver Talon and tba local support.
