POST TENEBRAS LUX
(2012) dir Carlos Reygadas w/Adolfo Jimenez Castro, Nathalia Acevendo, Willebaldo Torres [115 min; DCP] Mexican director Carlos Reygadas is a Brattle favorite we debuted both his first film Japon and his masterpiece Battle in Heaven and his new film does not disappoint. With a stunningly original visual palate, Reygadas delves into a pseudo-autobiographical tale of a well-off man who moves his family from the big city to an isolated country house. The film weaves back and forth in time and in and out of dreams as it obliquely exposes both the hypocrisy of the man and the genuine pathos in his soul.
"POST TENEBRAS LUX is that real rarity in cinema, a visually striking archaeology of the psyche that benefits both the moviegoer primed to engage Reygadas' ideas, and the ones open to being swallowed in an art film wave." Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times
