Nob Hill & Beyond
Nob Hill and Beyond is a 5-mile walk and hike that travels through urban and forested landscapes as walkers discover Portland's rich geologic, architectural, and horticultural treasures. Take stairways, hidden paths and streets less traveled; learn how neighborhoods were carved from steep hillsides and how the city grew into the hills as industry expanded along the river. With views of two rivers, Cascade peaks, the formerly wild Guilds Lake (now an industrial sanctuary) and a hike under the tall firs of the largest urban forest in the U.S., this tour covers an eclectic mix of sites and terrain as it showcases Portland's famous walkability. Note: the walk is uphill for the first half, gaining about 900 feet of elevation, with four long public stairways, steep streets and Forest Park trails.
