A BAND CALLED DEATH
Broaklyn Film & Theater Co. presets A BAND CALLED DEATH
Back in 1971, brothers Bobby, David and Dannis Hackney formed a band called Death and began cutting the kind of loud, fast, ragged rock tunes that the Ramones would become famous for six years later. In the new film A Band Called Death, directors Jeff Howlett and Mark Covino tell the incredible story behind the Detroit trio; here, you can take an exclusive first look at its trailer.
Ignored by the major labels who wanted nothing to do with a black rock group from Detroit (let alone one named Death), the group ended up calling it quits and let their master recordings collect dust in an attic; they were rediscovered decades later and reissued on Drag City in 2009. A Band Called Death will open in the San Francisco Bay Area on July 5 through Drafthouse Films.
