Cape Fear Roller Girls - New Recruit Bootcamp - May 2019
Tired of sitting in the stands? Want to get in on the action? Looking for an exciting way to make friends and stay in shape? The Cape Fear Roller Girls are seeking new recruits to join our Wilmington based roller derby league.
CFRG welcomes competitive-minded individuals from all walks of life who can dedicate the time and energy it takes to become a roller derby skater. You must be at least 18 years old and identify as female to play roller derby for CFRG.
During our 12-week Boot Camp which starts on May 7, 2019 and meets on Wednesday Nights from 8pm-10pm we will teach you:
> Basic skating skills (stopping, turning, crossovers, skating backwards, etc)
> How to fall safely and how to safely get back up
> Equipment maintenance and what type of gear you should buy (and not buy)
> General fitness, balance, and strength
> and then when you are ready we will start with gentle contact
> and eventually you will progress to learn strategy and gameplay!
NOTE: Skaters will not be in contact with each other until you are ready! Safety is important!
It certainly helps if you are already athletic and have skating experience, but it is not required. All you need is a positive attitude, an open mind, and the willingness to skate hard, keep pushing when things get tough, and be able to learn. Equipment is available (first come first serve) to borrow for the first few nights of boot camp practice if you do not have your own to start off.
There is no cost to attend the informational Registration Night on May 1. During this night you will fill out some paperwork so we can learn about you, and then many of our team skaters will talk about the details of how our league works, and what to expect during training and as a league skater. After our chat, well all enjoy a fun skate around Scooters so you can meet and skate with our skaters in a no-pressure environment and ask any specific questions you might have.
After Registration Night is over, if you want to stick with us, you will enter into our Roller Derby New Recruit Bootcamp where you will learn the skills necessary to become a Cape Fear Roller Girl, meet and bond with a group of amazingly diverse new friends and develop a new derby obsession!
Cost for the 12 week Bootcamp is $120. If you pay in full before May 7, you will receive a free Cape Fear Roller Girls T-shirt and sticker.
