The NC Dance Festival completes its 28th season at the BOOM Festival, featuring three of the artists selected to perform with the 2018-19 tour. During the season, earlier performances were held in both traditional and non-traditional stage spaces in Asheville, Durham, and Greensboro. In this performance, The Bipeds present Hypnagogiacs, an original, cross-disciplinary duet featuring choreographer Stacy Wolfson and banjo player Curtis Eller. With their signature performance style, the duo delves into a hallucinatory landscape of dreams where language dissolves and movement and song emerge as the only reliable means of expression. Lindsay Winthrops Protection asks dancers to interact with the element of water as an agent for navigating and examining personal beliefs. Water becomes an exploration of individual belief systems that are protected and embodied through ritual and protest. Megan Mazaricks fierce solo dance story monster unpacks female identity in new ways, remixing the metaphor of hero vs. villain to showcase the body in transformation.
