ABOUT BRUCE L. KING: Ballet Master Teacher, Bruce L. King has enjoyed a long career as dancer, choreographer, and instructor. Born in Los Angeles, Mr. King's early training was with Ballet Russe Alumni Tatiana Riabouchinska, George Zoritch, and Mlada Mladova. Both Eugene Loring and David Lichine also played an important role in his ballet study. A professional career soon followed with several prestigious companies including Les Grands Ballets Canadians, Eliot Feld Ballet U.S.A., Nevada Festival Ballet, State Ballet of Oregon, and Capitol City Ballet. In 1993, Mr. King retired from the rigors of a professional dance career to devote himself to teaching and choreography. In addition, Mr. King still performs Classical Ballet's premiere character roles including Herr Drosselmier, Dr. Coppelius, Von Rothbart, Don Quixote, and several others. Currently Mr. King is Ballet Master and Choreographer for Northern California Ballet, Resident Choreographer and Instructor for Capitol Ballet Company, and Principle Character Artist for Sacramento Ballet. Fresno audiences attending the 2012 production of Sacramento Ballet's The Nutcracker received a glimpse of Mr. King's unique talent in his portrayal of Herr Drosselmier. Professor King holds several degrees and honors including M.F.A., M.A., and B.A. degrees in theatre arts. He is also a French Certified Fencing Master, and stage sword fighting specialist with over one hundred full contact theater sword fights to his credit. Truly a Renaissance man! This is Mr. King's second summer session with California Arts Academy.
ABOUT WHITNEY HORD: Whitney was born and raised in Fresno and began her training in Ballet at Severance School of Dance. Now Whitney has returned to Fresno and is eager to share her acquired knowledge with the students of California Arts Academy. Whitney's movement philosophies include anatomy study, influences of Somatic Movement Therapies, i.e. Feldenkrais and the Alexander Technique, Martial Arts, Hip Hop, Ashtanga Yoga, combined with classic Ballet and Modern training.
